This summer, Maven Architect Ayesha Yousuf extended her learning journey beyond the office by joining the CAUKIN Workshop in East Sussex, UK; an international design-and-build program that emphasizes hands-on construction, sustainable techniques, and community-led design.
The project involved building an experiential floating structure on barrel foundations, designed as a space for forest school sessions with children in a flood-prone landscape. Beyond the outcome, the process was an equally powerful experience. Immersed in a craft-focused environment, Ayesha worked with power tools, practiced timber joinery, and navigated the sequencing of site work , all of which further expanded her understanding of how drawings transform into reality.
The result was both a functional space and a demonstration of how architecture can directly support education and community life. While collaboration with people from diverse backgrounds was part of the experience, the strongest takeaway was architectural: the fulfillment of watching design evolve into a built structure through precision and teamwork.
“There is a special kind of satisfaction in seeing every joint, every effort, and every detail come together as one cohesive whole.” – Ar. Ayesha Yousuf
This workshop not only strengthened her design perspective but also reaffirmed her commitment to architecture that is practical, purposeful, and community-centered, an insight that she continues to carry at her projects at Maven Projects.

Ayesha Yousuf is a PCATP licensed Architect and integral part of the Maven design team, contributing across projects from concept and planning to detailed coordination and execution.
